I'm North Indian girl (from Kashmir originally...tend to be fairer) and I have actually noticed that as you get higher up the social strata in India, the obsession with fair skin lessens. For example, most of the Indian models these days tend to be what Indian fashion journalists coin as "dusky beauties". So, what I think is that as Indians become prouder of their identity and their position in the world, they become less wary or paranoid about their skin color. This is because richer Indians no longer see themselves as subordinate to White people and thus, they no longer desire to be fair-skinned. Asian cultures use skin whitening techniques because fair skin is associated with welth. The lighter your skin the wealthier and more beautiful you are. are u guys retarted? I am indian 100% indian and have very fair skin, all of my family does. My younger sister has blue eyes too. Not all indians are dark, or brown. The reason why india finds fairness attractive, is not because of the buck toothed britishers, but because there are many people in India who have light skin, and lets face it, light skin looks better, and cleaner on most people than the dark brown skin. Fairness has been an ideal in India's history before they were even exposed to the europeans. Hindu goddess Lakshmi was known to have very fair skin. Not all indians look like Apu from the simpsons, get it! In very tip north, some indians even look oriental. Dont stereotype.
